Community website tackles information security concerns 4:22PM, Monday 30th June 2008
A community website has been launched for consumers with information security issues. Infosecurity Adviser offers forums, blogs, Q&A, career advice and an 'ask the expert' section.

The website has been created by the team behind Infosecurity Europe; an information security trade show held annually in London. According to the team, the key attraction of the website is that all content is created by and for the global infosecurity community.

Infosecurity Adviser is supported by the Information Security Advisory Forum (ISAF), and according to chairman Dr David King: "The new Infosecurity Advisor Portal will help to bring together expertise and advice to those who have questions around information security.

"This in turn will help to promote security awareness. ISAF supports this initiative and

welcomes the bringing together of different elements of the industry through the portal mechanism."

King added that ISAF's own blog is available on the Infosecurity Adviser website. Other contributors to the site include industry experts such as Peter Wenham from the Communications Management Association, Andy Jones from the Information Security Forum, Jon Collins from analyst firm Freeform Dynamics and Chris Potter from PricewaterhouseCoopers.

"Registered users of the site can get involved by posing questions to members of the 'Ask the Expert' panel on the forum, add a product review on a technology that they have used or comment on any of the content created by the community," said Claire Sellick, event director of Infosecurity Europe.

The site is intended to give insight and expertise beyond what is widely available on the internet, according to Raj Samani, VP of Comms at the International Systems Security Association's UK chapter.

"Sometimes you can be left with problems which Google simply cannot answer," he said. "It is therefore refreshing to see something out there which can provide practical help to problems which can sometimes seem impossible to deal with on your own."
