ASUS's VR Guard processor cooler is unusual in having its fan mounted on the side of the heatsink rather than on top. This directs airflow across the processor and the voltage regulators on the motherboard, cooling them down and prolonging your motherboard's life. The VR Guard fits LGA775 motherboards. Rather than using Intel's annoying plastic clip design, the VR Guard screws to the motherboard. You will have to stick the backing plate to the underside of your motherboard, however, so fitting it will involve taking your entire computer apart. Once fitted, the VR Guard feels sturdy. Testing it against Intel's reference cooler, we noticed that the VR Guard kept our 3.6GHz Pentium 560 processor running 10-C lower than the reference cooler. Despite being tricky to fit, the VR Guard does a good job of keeping your PC cool. By David Ludlow Sponsored Links
