This service gives you a choice of phone numbers with an 0845 prefix and the options of Xten's X-Lite soft phone or a dedicated IP phone. Alternatively, Connect+ Voicebox (also £75 including VAT) comes with an analogue telephone adaptor for use with a normal phone. We were surprised to find only minimal documentation with the hardware. Fortunately, though, the IP phone was preconfigured to work with the service, and we were pleasantly surprised to find that by plugging it into a router we had a dial tone straight away. The adaptor was just as easy to install, but to work out how to install the X-Lite soft phone we had to trawl through some of the online FAQs. The available services include voicemail, call diversion and parental controls, all accessible through the online control panel. Call quality was adequate, ranging somewhere between mobile and fixed line quality. Diverts worked as expected, but voicemail was accessible only via the handset, and we couldn't find a way to forward voicemail by email. By James Middleton SPECIFICATIONS:
