The Light Mat, as its name implies, is a mouse mat with a built-in light. Powered through a USB cable, it contains two LEDs that shine coloured light into the mat's clear-plastic core, illuminating the outer edges.

The Light Mat looks pretty flashy, but it could be better. Its packaging refers to an optional "sound-controlled inverter" that sits between a PC's USB port and the mat itself, varying the LEDs' intensity and colour according to changes in ambient sound. Unfortunately, ShoeBox Computers doesn't offer this upgrade. As it is, the Light Mat is available only with a choice of fixed red, green and blue LEDs. It's original and quite stylish, but not worth £25.
