The Sims proved that there's nothing more fun than playing God. The follow-up was going to have be something pretty special to impress. Fortunately, The Sims 2 isn't a letdown. Its excellent 3D graphics, flexible camera angles and almost unlimited control over your Sims' features make The Sims 2 a game all Sims fans will rave about.

The graphics are the most noticeable difference from the

original. The new detail is excellent, right down to facial expressions, which are true to life and can project the Sims' feelings authentically. When combined with their thought bubbles, it's far easier to understand their needs.

The new 3D view gives you free reign over camera angles. You needn't feel overwhelmed, though, as the 'learn to play' feature of this game is easy to understand and is an excellent idea for first-time players.

Once you get past the basics, almost every aspect of a Sim's appearance is controllable, leaving you to decide how beautiful or hideous your creation is. You can also take each one of your creations from the cradle to the grave, watching how your decisions affect their growth.

It's not without its drawbacks, though. Loading times are slow and saving a game takes a ridiculous amount of time. Despite these minor problems, this is a modern and enticing game that will keep Sims fans and newcomers alike playing for hours on end.
