Product ReviewsMusic/MP3 players
The NW-HD1 is the latest extension of Sony's Walkman brand and has a 20GB hard disk. Its brushed steel wraparound body looks sophisticated and will stand up to knocks and bumps. The NW-HD1 is smaller and lighter than other MP3 players with a comparable capacity. Despite this, it manages over 25 hours of playback from a fully charged battery. The player connects to your computer via a USB-attached cradle rather than a more useful direct connection. The cradle is also used for charging the battery. With Sony's well-known aversion to MP3, we weren't surprised to find that the NW-HD1 plays only ATRAC3plus files. The clumsy SonicStage application is used to rip CDs and manage file transfer. Sound quality is great, but the sound presets and manual graphic equaliser functions are a little heavy-handed. The battery life and capacity are also impressive, but this isn't quite the perfect package. By David McKinnon SPECIFICATIONS:
