Creative's latest top-of-the-range speaker system aims to do justice to the audio fidelity of its Audigy 2 sound cards and the DVD Audio discs they can play. The result is the best-sounding PC speakers on the market. The system looks like Creative's MegaWorks 550D on steroids. The sub-woofer is even bigger, the satellite count has increased to seven, and each one is taller to accommodate a tweeter and mid-range driver. The result is an extremely smooth and deep bass performance. The improvement to high-frequency detail is subtle but significant, as it means it can exploit the extra high-frequency data of DVD Audio discs. The top volume isn't quite as terrifying as the 700W RMS power rating may suggest, but it's still pretty huge. Upmixing is built in to accommodate 5.1 and 6.1 sources but the lack of a dedicated volume knob is a little frustrating. The MegaWorks 550D is still a great performer, but the GigaWorks' superiority justifies its price. By Ben Pitt SPECIFICATIONS:
