Gates Gives $6-billion to Charity 5:22PM, Wednesday 6th December 2000
Bill and Melinda Gates yesterday announced a $6-billion charitable donation to help fight killer diseases in the developing world.

The donation to the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation - thought to be the biggest ever charitable pledge by living donors - will be used to develop, fund and hasten the delivery of vaccinations against diseases such as tuberculosis, malaria and hepatitis.

The donation was announced only two months after the Gates pledged $5-billion to the William H Gates Foundation, which funds health and education projects world-wide.

The giant donations are part of the Gates' long-term plan to give away all but about $20-million of their $100-billion fortune in their lifetimes.
