Create your own official XP Service Pack 3 disc 2:44PM, Monday 16th June 2008
Having the latest service packs on disc is a convenient way to make sure that they're always to hand when you need them. With Windows XP Service Pack 3 (SP3) there's no need to sign up for any 'free' deals that you may have seen, as Microsoft has provided a way that you can create your own official disc free of charge. We'll show you how to do it. All you need is a blank CD.

Microsoft has put the official XP SP3 CD image on its website. Simply download this ISO file to your hard disk.

To burn the image file to disc you need an application capable of burning them. Both Roxio Creator and Nero Burning ROM can do this. If you don't have either of these applications, download the free ISO Recorder instead. There are XP and Vista versions available, so make sure you download the right one.

Once the software is installed, insert a blank disc into the drive you're going to record the image to and use Windows Explorer to browse to the XP3 ISO file. Right-click it and select Copy image to CD. Select your CD writer from the list and click Next to burn the disc.
