The German manufacturer has a strong tradition in producing keenly priced handheld devices to sell through large retailers, such as supermarkets, that has served it well in the PDA market, and its GPS range looks to be in a similar vein.

The 210 includes everything to get you going: UK maps, a 256MB memory card, a 2.8in colour screen and money-off coupons for extras such as safety camera mapping, for £149.99.

The 500 costs £199.99 inc VAT, for which you get a 3.5in screen and the option of upgrading to TrafficMaster RDS TMC service, which will route you around traffic hold ups. It also functions as an MP3 player, although you still only get the 256MB memory card.

For £269.99 inc VAT, the GoPal PNA 510 upgrades the memory card to 1GB and adds in TMC for life. You also get maps for Western Europe as well as UK and Ireland.

Finally the 515, at £349.99 inc VAT, adds Eastern Europe to the map borders as well as operating as a hands-free kit for your mobile phone using Bluetooth wireless technology.
