Intel eyes Averill business platform 12:19PM, Monday 27th March 2006
Intel is looking at business PCs for its next big brand push.

Having taken on wireless laptops with Centrino, and most recently entertainment PCs with Viiv, the business PC looks to be the next region to be added to the Intel empire.

Senior Vice President General Manager, Sales and Marketing Group Anand Chandrasekher said that while he could not confirm the launch of such a brand, he suggested that Intel's pattern in this arena mirrors the strategies adopted for Centrino and ViiV.

Indeed, Intel has already said that it intends to launch a business PC platform code-named Averill later this year, and demonstrated the Conroe desktop chip set to be the main processor at IDF earlier this month.

Chandrasekher said that the business PC should cover manageability, security and virtualisation; and the Averill platform specifies Intel's Active Management Technology remote assistance and hardware implemented virtualisation from the outset. The Conroe chip also boasts power efficiencies that will equally prove a draw to businesses considering deploying them in large numbers.
