Dubbed by Nvidia as addressing the 'mid-range professional graphics' market - it is aimed at the traditional workstation space of CAD/CAM, multimedia content creation and scientific visualisation applications.
With 128MB of memory and a 128-bit floating-point graphics pipeline, it is manufactured on IBM's 0.13-micron process. Nvidia points out that this means - with the closely packed transistors - more performance for less power consumption, which also means less heat.
Workstations to feature the new GPU will include IBM's IntelliStation MPro and ZPro workstations and HP workstations, such as the xw4100, the xw6000, and the xw8000.
'Rock-solid partnerships with companies such as IBM, HP, and PNY further underscore our continued drive to provide professionals with the gold standard in workstation graphics,' said Jeff Brown, Nvidia's.
Compare and contrast with ATI's recent release in a related area - high-end graphics processors for mobile workstations - the Mobility FireGL T2
Last month Nvidia also updated its GeForce FX Go series for notebooks.
