Woman ordered to pay £16,000 for sharing game illegally

A woman has been ordered to pay £16,000 to for illegally sharing games and films online. The charges were levied by US computer game manufacturer Topware Interactive.
The action taken against the woman, who has not been named, was provoked by her decision to illegally share Dream Pinball 3D. She is the first in the UK to be charged by the Las Vegas-based company, which is battling to protect its copyright by setting an example of consumers.
Topware Interactive also won preliminary victories in four other cases and claims to have 1,000 more names on their list of people who have been illegally sharing the game.
The woman was ordered to pay just over £6,000 in damages as well as costs and disbursements of £10,000 to the company, said Topware's London lawyers Davenport Lyons. The game costs around £16 in shops.
