Oyster glitch allows passengers free rides

London's Oyster card system failed for the second time this month, as ticket barriers at London Tube stations had to be kept open. All pay-as-you-go Oyster cards were affected by the glitch.
The barriers were open for several hours, allowing thousands of passengers to travel for free.
Earlier this month, a glitch with the system meant tens of thousands of travellers had to replace their Oyster cards, and Transport for London (TfL) had to refund travellers after charging them erroneous penalty fares.
Adding to TfL's woes, a court recently ruled that a team of Dutch researchers who hacked into the Oyster card system to travel for free, could publish their findings.
The swipe cards act as payment for travel in London, and are used over 7 million times per day across London's bus, train and tube services.
