Some books on digital photography cover just photo manipulation and some tell you only how to use a camera, but this book covers all aspects. The emphasis is on editing, printing and sharing digital images, but about 200 pages are concerned with taking photographs.
The information ranges from the very basic - choosing a camera or a PC on which to store and edit your photographs - through material such as landscape photography, metering techniques and editing with curves, up to advanced and unusual stuff such as restoring old photographs and 3D effects.
If you were to read this book from cover to cover you'd be occupied for some time. However, you may well choose to dip into it from time to time or simply get inspiration from its superb photos, all of which are reproduced in colour (except for those in the sections on black and white photography).
There's also a companion CD that includes a PowerPoint gallery of the author's photographs with a commentary, QuickTime tutorials on Photoshop 7 and various time-limited software trials, including Photoshop Elements.
