Belinea b.display 4_22" wide   [Computer Shopper]
COMPANY: Belinea PRICE: £220inc VAT

Belinea's new 22in LCD has one of the most infuriating onscreen menus we've seen, which makes setting it up a real pain. It took us far too long to switch to sRGB colour mode and lower the brightness to get a good picture. Once this chore was out of the way, we found the b.display a reasonable all-round monitor.

The screen has a DVI and, unusually, two VGA inputs, and its design is plain but certainly not ugly. The fat stand tilts, swivels and lifts through more than 10cm to suit any height, plus it pivots to portrait mode. The integrated 1W speakers may be useful for checking out YouTube videos, but they're not good enough for movies or games.

The screen's performance in our tests was varied. We were impressed by its smooth gradients and natural colours, but the high brightness comes at the cost of greyish blacks and a slightly washed-out appearance. This problem isn't enough to make it a bad monitor, but LG's superior L227WT costs just £1 more.
