LabsDVD writers
Sony NEC's AD-7191S is similar to the other internal Sony NEC Optiarc burner, the AD-7173S. Both use a SATA connection and have similar specifications, but the AD-7191S is rated at 20X for single-layer DVDs instead of 18X. Unlike the AD-7173S, it etches labels on to LightScribe discs rather than Labelflash ones. Like the other DVD writers in the group, the AD-7191S couldn't reach its stated 20X speed, but it did manage a fast 10X when writing DVD-R discs. It wrote DVD+R discs at 9.65X and double-layer DVDs at around 6X. It was faster writing to DVD+RW than to DVD-RW discs, but managed high speeds for both. The AD-7191S is a fast DVD writer, but it doesn't come with any software. It's the best SATA drive in the group, but if you don't mind using a PATA interface instead then Samsung's Super-WriteMaster or LiteOn's LH-20A1H are quicker. SPECIFICATIONS:
