Viewsonic's PJ758 is matt black and boxy. At 3.5kg you wouldn't want to carry it far, but it won't break your back if you move it around the office. LCD projectors tend to have a much lower contrast ratio than DLP models, and the PJ758 is no exception, although its 500:1 contrast ratio is the joint-highest among the LCD office projectors.

As well as two VGA inputs and a VGA output, the PJ758 has S-video and component connectors. It is compatible with 720p and 1080i HD signals but has no HDCP support.

The PJ758 did quite well in our office tests. The Windows desktop was well focused, and small text appeared crisp on the big screen. However, we weren't able to get properly dark blacks, and the projector failed to pick out small details in dark areas of still images. It produced a smooth greyscale gradient, but colours were oversaturated and unrealistic.

The PJ758 wasn't so good at displaying video. We couldn't get the colours right, and footage appeared over-saturated. Scaling of standard-definition video was handled well, with sharply defined images and only a slight jagged appearance to straight edges. However, it failed to reduce noise in moving images.

The PJ758's image quality is average. Its pin-sharp focus over VGA is a plus, but poor colour reproduction and HD performance is disappointing.
