The top end offering, the FinePix 2600 Zoom, features a 2megapixel CCD and 3x optical zoom, enhanced by a digital zoom for a maximum 7.5x magnification. You can use the 1.8in colour LCD to frame your shots or save battery life with the optical viewfinder.

camera also takes 20-second movies at 320x240 (10fps) and offers a webcam mode. A 16Mb SmartMedia card is included and you can download images to the desktop via USB. It also allows you to manually set exposure and white balance, or choose the automatic mode.

The FinePix 2600 Zoom will cost £229.99 inc VAT or thereabouts.

Further down the scale, the Finepix A101 and Finepix A201 will cost 'under' £200 inc VAT and £250 inc VAT and offer a 1.3 megapixel and 2.0 megapixel CCD respectively. Both offer a 1.6in LCD and the same manual and automatic control features for exposure, white balance, red-eye reduction and slow-synchro. The cheaper model comes with 8Mb of SmartMedia storage and the more expensive has 16Mb. Again, they offer movie modes, USB connectivity and digital zoom functionality.
