Dabbledb   [Computer Buyer]
COMPANY: Dabble DB PRICE: £0
RATING: ISSUE: 197  DATE: Aug 07

The database is one element missing from most online office suites, partly because fewer people need it (Microsoft also misses its Access database out of the basic edition of Office) but also presumably because databases are so complex. Dabbledb is simple in a good way. It lets you cut and paste data from other databases and Excel spreadsheets, then restructure it, filter data according to criteria of your choice and add relations between fields. You can even grab new data from other websites at regular intervals.

The application can filter and sort both numerical and text data and display it visually, for example in a calendar or a graph. You can save these views and go back to them later. Most cleverly of all, Dabbledb interprets data - recognising dates in a spreadsheet, for example, and showing them in a calendar view.

The downside to the free version is that it doesn't have any password protection, which means your database is effectively open to view. As long as you don't need to use it for any sensitive information, it's a powerful tool and reasonably easy to use.
