Reuters gets a Second Life 10:31AM, Tuesday 17th October 2006
Always a news agency to put its journalists in places where it cover events of historical significance, Reuters has announced it will be opening a news bureau in the virtual world of Second Life.

From Wednesday, Reuters will begin reporting text, photo and video news from the outside world for Second Life members and news of Second Life for real world readers.

Second Life, populated by avatars who set up homes and businesses on the virtual world, has been one of the fastest growing sites of the last year. There are nearly a million users who live their lives in the virtual world. Players spend around $350,000 a day on average which works out at $130 million a year.

The London-based Adam Pasick, a Reuters' media correspondent, will act as the news organization's first virtual bureau chief. His personal avatar that will pound the mean streets will have the moniker Adam Reuters.

'As strange as it might seem, it's not that different from being a reporter in the real world,' Pasick said. 'Once you get used to it - it becomes very much like the job I have been doing for years.' No doubt we all look forward to Adam's vox pop interviews discussing the pressing issues of the day with the beautiful denizens of the zone.
