This is just what Windows Media Center PCs should be: silent, fuss-free and attractive.

In terms of connection options, there's only a VGA and S-Video out on offer, although cables to convert the latter to scart are included. It's slightly disappointing that there's no component option, but there's currently no support for widescreen formats. The good news is that VIA is working on drivers to support the 16:9 aspect ratio, and these are scheduled to be in place around the end of March. Early buyers will then be able to download them from the VIA or Tranquil websites. Audio is dealt with via standard 3.5mm sockets, or via coaxial S/PDIF output. But the surprising omission is WLAN. You could add an 802.11b/g dongle for around £20, but it's a surprising oversight in a bespoke MCE system.

And is it quiet? The answer is a resounding yes. The optical drive naturally whirrs and clunks a bit when loading up, but otherwise you're left in peace. Owners of widescreen TVs would be advised to hold out until updated drivers are in place before buying, and we're still more drawn to the greater flexibility and expandability of the DMS II. But, as an appliance, the T2e.SP13000 is an impressive piece of kit.
