Dell Precision 330 Workstation review

Verdict

Dell has boosted performance with plenty of RDRAM and an Ultra160 SCSI hard disk, but the result is another expensive workstation that can't justify its cost.

A price tag of £2,749 excluding £49 for delivery is to be expected, largely because of the SCSI drive and RDRAM, not to mention the useful three-year, next business day, on-site warranty. Still, it's a bit steep. Yes, the Precision is faster than some of its 1.5GHz Pentium 4 rivals, but you certainly pay for the difference. Furthermore, real-world 2D performance, with an overall score of 3.49 in our benchmarks, still trails behind a 1.33GHz Athlon with DDR memory like the Evesham Axis 1.33 DDR (reviewed opposite).
