That £187 is fairly expensive, especially now that the iPhone supports tethering...
I personally use a program called Joikuspot that turns your Symbian S60 phone into one of these - much, much cheaper

In Singapore MiFi2352 costs S$68 with a 2 year contract.

And BTW, Joikuspot is just no good, cause it doesn't support WPA. And WEP can be cracked in a matter of seconds.
