SmokePing review
If you're worried about the latency of your broadband connection, and you should be as the speed and reliability of IP data packet transfer is key to a smooth broadband experience, then you should take a look at SmokePing.
This lets you put your connection to the most strenuous of tests over a continuous 24 hour period to determine just how well it performs.
Not only does this tool monitor latency by pinging your IP address from three separate dispersed locations, but it also starts generating graphs within hours.
And that's where SmokePing really comes into its own, because these contain all the quality and reachability information about your connection that you need.
What's more, they display it in such a way that it is easy to spot problems and find out exactly when they occurred.
The more 'smoky' a segment of the graph, the more variable the latency at that point, and because three independent monitoring stations are used you can discount it if just one shows a problem.
