remote access is now standard

remote access from a mac or PC is now a standard feature. just go to www.mystora.com and login.
You will still need to upgrade to premium at $19.99 a year for mobile acces and a bunch of other features.

If I knew then what I know now.

...I would not have bought this.

I had issues with installing the software...and that is when I find out that Netgear's support is effectively zero. Emails remain unanswered, Netgear Forums don't accept new registrations and the Netgear website stalls if you so much as look at it. I also didn't realise that the slot for a second disk was mirrored Raid 1 only...I don't need that level of security and would rather have the extra capacity. Nor does the idea of paying or remote access appeal.

You will gather that I am not impressed.

That said, I do have my NAS up and running, so it is not a total waste of money.

Internet access

An Internet is required for setup and many normal operations see http://forum1.netgear.com/showthread.php?t=50476

"An internet connection [is required] at all times as many of the Stora's features and administartion require the internet. This includes creating local user accounts, etc." (robyb,
Moderator on Netgear forum).

There are many complaints that the Stora requires opening holes in router firewalls and loading local passwords to a Netgear website!

These issues *may* be addressed in a future firmware update.

Keep well clear

'Set up is simple' you say - just look at the comments on the Netgear forums for a different view. This product is junk, the software will often not connect to the Stora. One day it will, the next it will not. Netgear Support does not exist, no response from emails or calls.
