Transtec Provigo 210

Verdict

A low-cost alternative to iSCSI thanks to some innovative technology, but performance isn't as good.

Zetera reckons its Z-SAN technology is easier and more affordable than iSCSI. The Provigo 210 certainly costs a lot less than most SMB iSCSI solutions and is, in fact, better value than many 1TB NAS appliances. There isn't much between the two with regards to installation and configuration, but as our tests show the 210 can't match iSCSI for performance. The other thing to bear in mind is that iSCSI is standards-based, whereas Z-SAN is a proprietary technology, so your future storage prospects could rest on the survival of a single developer.
