McAfee Internet Security Suite 2007

Verdict

A mixed bag of features, with some fundamentally flawed defaults and too many opaque alerts

Review Date: 10 Nov 2006

Price when reviewed: (£50 inc VAT): Upgrade: £34 (£40 inc VAT)

Overall Rating
4 stars out of 6

Despite the sheer amount of features packed into the McAfee suite, it still falls down with regards to value. When it comes to the core security suite, you're left with the option of paying £77 for a three-user licence, the norm for most households with at least one desktop and one laptop to protect. However, F-Secure offers the same protection for just £34. When you couple this price difference with McAfee's penchant for pointless default options and the noise of all those alerts, we simply can't recommend Internet Security Suite 2007. With only a £9 saving for upgrading from the 2006 suite, even existing users are better off investing in a three-user F-Secure licence.
