Kaspersky Internet Security 6

Verdict

Kaspersky's first integrated security suite relies too much on the anti-virus component

Review Date: 23 Jun 2006

Price when reviewed: (£47 inc VAT); UPGRADE Free if valid version 5 licence held, 30% discount if expired

Overall Rating
4 stars out of 6

The anti-spyware scanning couldn't keep pace with standalone clients either, with commercial keylogger detection and removal being particularly poor. The overall spyware performance wasn't a match for the A-Listed ZoneAlarm, scraping by with 86% on detection and 81% on removal rates. It passed our blocking test with a reasonable 68%.

The real strength of the Kaspersky suite remains the anti-virus protection, which is also available in standalone format in a new version 6 guise. But even this seems expensive at £24, especially when compared to the free version of AVG, which performs just as well. Indeed, it's the pricing that lets down Internet Security 6: a £3 discount simply isn't enough to encourage large-scale migration away from ZoneAlarm Security Suite 6, which outperforms Kaspersky's offering in every regard.
