Txtlocal review

Very cool service!

I have used http://www.txtlocal.co.uk since 2007 to promote my DJ night in Wigan. I simply asked people to text JIM to 077862xxxxx and they join my contact list - and then I send news and gigs to them for just a few pence.
I could not manage without it now - I have thought about using Twitter (as reviewer says) but it doesn't reach everyone - Txtlocal does. The new interface is cool - takes about 20 seconds for me to send messages to my groups.
I also use the inbound system for song requests - the number is printed at the bar at weddings and parties - people text in and I get an email with their request... very high tech eh? ;-)

Good Service But TextTank Is Better (And Cheaper)

I agree with the reviewer about SMS being a better medium to contact people over Twitter but there is a better service out there.

I use www.TextTank.co.uk - It's almost the same as TxtLocal but much easier to use, more features and best of all - it's cheaper!

Just my opinion but after trying both i think TextTank is the one to go for, Sorry PC Pro!

Hmm

Yes.. I have looked at TextTank.. and yes it is a little cheaper.

However, it has a fraction of the features of Txtlocal (or Clickatell & Bulk SMS who I also experimented with). All were faster and more reliable than TextTank (the mailmerge was garbled when it landed on my customers phones!!) - and I ended up choosing Txtlocal due to the superb UK based support I received.

You get what you pay for.. a few pence more for greater reliability, first class support and a richer feature set is certainly worth it IMHO.

It is like the difference between a Skoda and a Rolls Royce. Both get you to your destination (most of the time!)... however, you pay more for the little extras and reliability.

I've tried them all

I have tried txtlocal, clickatell, bulksms, cardboardfish, aql and texttank.

texttank is the cheapest and i think the best quality. It delivers just as quick if not quicker than the others and works just fine for me. I'd say it is the "Rolls Royce" service to use James Mitch's words.

I found it is run by cardboardfish and they
have been around for 10 years and they stress they only use their direct connections to the uk operators to provide the best service. They do all texttank's support which is 24/7.

Txtlocal rules!

Well, I tried TextTank again yesterday - but hot footed it back to Txtlocal. It was ok, but very limited in functionality - I could not set up a working autoresponder or email to SMS so gave up (after phoning support and getting nowhere - I guess it was a Sunday, but Txtlocal answered the phone to me!).

Txtlocal is still King for me! :)

Well I send and receive texts, not emails so for a texting site texttank does what it says, and very well.

I got a reply from their support at approx 2am last Saturday morning in response to something I asked 10 minutes earlier so i'd vouch for their out of hours support too.

Much cheaper texts available

I found e-Txt from Dynmark has cheaper prices than all of these, their highest price being 3.8p per text and you only pay for delivered messages. Thats over 1p cheaper than Txtlocal, and still cheaper than Texttank

Much better value

Excellent comments but the industry has really moved on and newer companies like onesixty.co.uk offer some amazing services and priced much more competitively than those above.
