The biggest practical advance when it comes to slide handling is Captivate 3's greatly enhanced support for PowerPoint projects. Previously, you were limited to importing static bitmaps of each slide, but Captivate 3 supports most transitions and animations. The slides are imported as full-motion SWF video so aren't editable, which means that to make changes you'll have to go back to PowerPoint and then reimport. It isn't an ideal system, but it's a huge step forward.
