Symantec Norton Ghost 12

Verdict

Now a true all-in-one package thanks to file and folder backup, but it can't match Acronis for value.

Review Date: 13 Aug 2007

Price when reviewed: (£40 inc VAT); upgrade £26 (£30 inc VAT)

Overall Rating
5 stars out of 6

If you have a Maxtor OneTouch external disk, you can take advantage of Ghost's integration by running your backups at the touch of its button. Remote management is also present, so you can control other Ghost 12 installations over a network, and the LightsOut restore function lets you remotely restore a computer. Bear in mind you'll need a separate licence for each system, and this is one of Norton's weak points, as the £34 price tag for each machine is double that of Acronis True Image 10.

So Norton Ghost 12 is the best version of Ghost so far. But since True Image 10 can match or surpass it in most ways for just £14 per licence, we'd still lean towards the existing champion when it comes to backup and drive imaging.
