A table of the digital images taken with the scanners

There's little to justify the Astra's price, which is similar to that of the Canon 3200F. There's no transparency adaptor and it only has a USB 1.1 interface. When scanning at 1,200 x 2,400ppi this becomes an issue - it took almost seven minutes to scan our 10 x 8in photo. Previews were also slow at 23 seconds.

At least the 4600 can perform multiple scans at once, and the TWAIN driver is fairly user friendly. Quality was disappointing though.

Colour accuracy was the main culprit, with reds turning a plum shade and skin tones looking unnatural. Boosting saturation in the bundled PhotoImpression helped a bit, but overall the 4600 is a disappointment.
