HTC TyTN

Verdict

Review Date: 22 Sep 2006

Price when reviewed: (£481 inc VAT) without contract

Overall Rating
5 stars out of 6

HTC, the manufacturer behind the O2 Xda and Orange SPV handsets, is now also marketing products under its own brand. Not content with GSM, GPRS, EDGE and 802.11b/g, the TyTN also packs in 3G and HSPDA. The robust chassis has a 2.8in touchscreen TFT and a multitude of hardware buttons, plus two fairly good cameras: one for video calls and a 2-megapixel unit for snapshots. For typing, the sliding QWERTY keyboard is comfortable to use. With a 400MHz processor onboard, Windows Mobile 5 feels nippy too, although the 64MB of RAM for programs and storage will soon need supplementing via the MicroSD slot. As a phone, it's just svelte enough to use without looking ridiculous, although its dimensions and 176g weight are bulky in a pocket. Nonetheless, with so much flexibility, the TyTN may allow you to leave your notebook at home.
