iHome iH5 Clock Radio for iPod

Verdict

Review Date: 23 Jun 2006

Price when reviewed: (£99 inc VAT)

Overall Rating
4 stars out of 6

With the majority of iPod-specific docks and speakers failing to ignite the imagination, it's good to finally see a practical device for use with Apple's range of MP3 players. The iH5 delivers fairly tinny audio quality through its 2W speakers, but it isn't noticeably worse than most other clock radios, and you can at least wake up in the morning to a playlist of your choice. This mains-powered unit integrates seamlessly with third-generation iPods onwards, and the accompanying remote control feels cheap but works well. There's also an AM/FM receiver built in and usefully, it's powered by separate batteries, so you won't oversleep in the event of a powercut. A 3.5mm audio input means it can deal with other audio sources too and, although you can't dock any other MP3 players, or use the remote to control them, it's this flexibility we like.
