Samsung YP-Z5QB

Verdict

Review Date: 23 Jun 2006

Price when reviewed: (£112 inc VAT)

Overall Rating
5 stars out of 6

The YP-Z5QB is Samsung's rather belated response to Apple's ever popular iPod nano. It's almost the same size as Apple's device (albeit 5mm thicker) and has 2GB of flash memory built in, which is enough for around 40 albums. The screen's a little bigger at 1.8in (as opposed to the nano's 1.5in), but the biggest difference is what it will play: MP3s, Ogg Vorbis files and both DRM and non-DRM WMAs all work flawlessly. The menu system takes a little getting used to, but the touchpad works well after a few tries. It's compatible with Windows Media Player 10, and a battery that lasts for several days is another plus, particularly as it charges via the proprietary data cable whenever you transfer new music files to it. At £95, it's also around £20 cheaper than the 2GB iPod nano.
