Computer Associates eTrust EZ Armor 2005

Verdict

A slightly older version of ZoneAlarm's firewall rebadged and without as many features, EZ Armor tries to persuade us it's a better buy - but cheap isn't cheerful this time.

It most certainly wasn't the quickest of scanners during our tests, something that this time it does share with its Zone Labs cousin. At least system resources didn't take a hammering during the scans and we were able to continue with our combination of email and word processing without any great slowdown.

Cookie control and pop-up blocking are no longer seen as value-add items; after all, they come for free with your web browser these days.

Other than that, there really isn't a great deal to say about EZ Armor, and that's the biggest problem - it doesn't do much and it does it with a distinct lack of va-va voom. But it's cheap and if you don't require the missing components it's an acceptable budget buy.
