eGenie

Verdict

Ease of use is a major selling point, but the price is a bit steep for the features on offer.

Review Date: 1 Dec 2000

Price when reviewed: (£323 inc VAT)

Overall Rating
4 stars out of 6

The software accepts credit card payments, and the payment details are downloaded with the order into the eGenie FrontDesk order-processing software included. You'll need a 'customer not present' merchant account with your bank to process the orders manually at present, as there don't appear to be any built-in on-line authorisation gateways. eGenie actually works very well, is simple to use and, apart from needing to know your Internet server settings for the FTP uploading of your site (all software requires this), the operation is as easy as it's supposed to be.

If eGenie is compared with a product like Store4Web!, for example, then it's price tag looks high. For a first-time Web presence, Store4Web! caters well at less than a fifth of the price of eGenie. You do get more features with eGenie, but not enough to warrant its high price.
