Creative MuVo TX

Verdict

Review Date: 21 Apr 2004

Price when reviewed: (£130 inc VAT)

Overall Rating
5 stars out of 6

Creative's promiscuity in the saturated MP3 player market continues, with the release of the MuVo TX. Following the design of the MuVo NX in all but colour, it's a sturdy device, with a small LCD screen and tiny, yet tactile, buttons to access the menu system. It supports MP3, WMA and WAV file formats.

The TX is superior to the NX in several ways though. First off, its capacity has been increased from 128MB to 256MB, offering you 16 hours of compressed voice recording using the built-in microphone. File transfer is now by USB 2, so filling up the drive takes under two minutes. Finally, battery life has been improved - a single AAA battery will last for 14 hours of regular use.

It's not quite perfect though: it's prone to the occasional crash, and the price is too high given that a 4GB MuVo2 (see issue 114, p47) is available for £150. But if size is an issue, and you only need four hours of 128Kb/sec MP3s, then this is a fine choice.
