Eizo FlexScan L695 review

Verdict

An excellent but expensive panel with some unique trading-floor features.

The L695 is typical of Eizo: top-notch quality, but at a hefty premium. This 18.1in panel is designed specifically for trading floors and has ActiveRotation, which allows software-unaided pivoting, and ActiveShot, which displays output from two sources simultaneously using Picture-In-Picture (PIP) - the aim being to keep an eye on stock prices, for example, while performing other tasks. The OSD provides total control of the PIP's size, shape, position, contrast and choice of full-screen display area or clipped portion.

However, with such an onus on multiple inputs, the choice of a DVI-I and VGA combination over two DVI-I inputs seems strange. Although two cables are included, as well as a USB cable for remote control, there's no DVI cable.

Exemplary viewing angles, a slim bezel and versatile stand are all highlights, and the L695 is the only TFT here to pass the TCO 03 standard. This means low emissions and running costs, which can be significant at a corporate level. It's also compatible with Eizo's Screen Administrator software, which allows key setup tasks to be performed remotely.

In our technical tests, the L695 scored top marks in practically every test, with distinctions for the tonal range and blending in the ramps, thanks to 10-bit gamma correction. As expected, the 40ms response time rendered the game unplayable and the DVD practically unwatchable, but this won't matter in a business environment.

The hefty price is the Eizo's stumbling block. You could buy two ADi A715s and still have change for the price of one L695. And if you want tip-top performance, try the LG.
