The Harmony 1100 takes the concept of universal remotes further than most. Logitech claims it can recognise 225,000 devices from 5,000 manufacturers, and tests with our home equipment brought no problems. It was set up in 20 minutes via a PC and successfully controlled our TVs, hi-fis and set-top boxes, and the 3.5in touchscreen is big enough for comfortable use. The charging station ensures you won't run out of juice, and it's a durable piece of kit, which is essential for a device that will spend much of its life being thrown around the living room. You can set macros for common multiple actions, and it will support pretty much any device in your home - but the high price is likely to limit its appeal to home-cinema enthusiasts.
