Microtek ScanMaker Office Pro

Verdict

A high-quality scanner with a comprehensive bundle of software and even an automatic document feeder. Everything you need but it's not the cheapest around.

Review Date: 1 Aug 1997

Price when reviewed: (£1,099 inc VAT)

Overall Rating
4 stars out of 6

The ScanMaker Office Pro comes with limited printed documentation. There's an Installation Guide, a Calibration Guide and a ScanWizard Quick Reference Guide. None of the bundled software comes with printed manuals either, instead all the manuals are on the CD-ROM in PDF format and you need to install Adobe Acrobat in order to read and print them.

The ScanMaker Office Pro isn't cheap, but like everything else you get what you pay for. Microtek has bundled a good range of image editing and OCR software with the unit, and it should address most people's needs. The ADF is an added feature for corporate users with multipage documents to scan. The Microtek is definitely above average in quality, but you can get cheaper scanners.
