Agfa SnapScan 600

Verdict

Very good quality: more suited to the semi-professional than the infrequent user.

Review Date: 1 May 1998

Price when reviewed: (£340 inc VAT)

Overall Rating
5 stars out of 6

All in all, the SnapScan 600 is a very competent scanner. In fact, its quality far exceeds the needs of its apparent target market, the majority of which would be perfectly well served by a unit costing less than half of the 600's asking price. The same can be said if you're looking for a unit to use for Web publishing; the low resolutions demanded by images published on the Web simply don't need a scanner of this calibre.

Although the SnapScan 600 doesn't quite match the quality of the LinoType Jade 2, it's cheaper, significantly quieter and still good enough to be used for real publications, with moderate print runs if you decide you really need the extra quality.
