Xerox Phaser 1235 DT review

The final test was our 12-page Excel spreadsheet, which, surprisingly, proved to be a minor stumbling block for the Phaser 1235 DT, managing only 7.6ppm. This is around 3ppm slower than the Oki C7200n, highlighting an important area where the two print engines perform differently. Performance aside, though, quality was again superb.

The Phaser 1235 DT has a 10/100 BaseTX network card and its functions are handled by Xerox's CentreWare DP software, which allows you to install, connect and configure Xerox printers over the network. Xerox has made an effort to make installation over a network a simple process, by automating as much of the setup as possible. As expected these days, you can also remotely configure the printer using a browser-based network printer management tool.

The main issue with the Xerox Phaser 1235 DT is its price. At £3,999, it costs a staggering £1,970 more than the Oki C7200n. Even accounting for the optional extras to make an equivalent specification, the price gap is still £1,144 in favour of the Oki. This is a shame, as the Phaser 1235 DT is an excellent printer, both in terms of output quality and speed. But, with the Oki and Xerox printers both offering such similar levels of performance and options, the Phaser 1235 DT is simply too expensive, in terms of unit cost and upgrades, to gain a thorough recommendation.
