Kyocera FS-3700 review

Verdict

A smart little workgroup printer with a storming 18ppm print engine and remarkably low operating costs. Plenty of expansion potential, but more expensive than the competition when you add the PostScript and network options

Graphics performance was much slower, and a full-page photographic image with KIR switched off took 64 seconds. You should consider adding the cost of a memory upgrade to your initial outlay if you intend to use graphics extensively. I encountered numerous memory overruns, especially with image enhancement selected.

The strongest argument in favour of the FS-3700 has to be its high print speed and low operating costs, but sacrifices have been made. There are many other printers in the 16ppm-20ppm range, such as HP's LaserJet 6 (reviewed issue 25, p167), Rank Xerox and even IBM, that come with PostScript Level 2 emulation as standard. Add this option, plus the Ethernet card and the FS-3700 breaks the £2,500 barrier, making it a more expensive choice.
