3Com Palm III review

Verdict

A decent update to a popular PDA. It's still limited by the lack of a keyboard, but its pocket size and PC connectivity more than make up for it.

The off-line mail reader application is still very useful, allowing you to read and reply to your email. If you compose a reply on the Palm III, it will be instantly sent once you HotSync the unit. Third-party applications also seem to run without incident on the Palm III, and IntelliSync version 2 will let you synchronise with the likes of Outlook 97, Schedule+ and Lotus Organizer 2.1.

The final big difference between the Palm III and the PalmPilot is memory, which has been doubled to 2Mb. This will come as a godsend if you've filled your memory with the multitude of decent third party applications out there.

On the whole, the Palm III is a well thought-out update to an already good product. If you're looking for a PDA and can live without the extra power of a Psion or Windows CE machine, the Palm III will serve you well.
