That said, the Iiyama did suffer from significant moire interference, which was most evident on patterned backgrounds such as the Outlook calendar screen. We could also see a fuzzing around the edges of text, which couldn't be corrected using the moire adjustment in the OSD. The NEC-Mitsubishi exhibited some moire interference too, but to a lesser degree.

One area where both monitors excelled was colour performance - an area where CRTs still trounce TFTs. Colour and greyscale fades were beautifully displayed on both monitors, with even gradients and superb colour blending.

The Diamond Plus 230SB and Vision Master Pro 514 are both superb monitors, each with differing strengths and weaknesses. The NEC-Mitsubishi features better power regulation and marginally superior geometry, plus the advantages of NaViSet, while the Iiyama offers better sharpness and focus and more features. However, considering that the Iiyama costs £34 less and has extra features and better sharpness, it wins our recommendation.
