Asus V6J

Verdict

Strong performance thanks to Intel's Core Duo processor and 1GB of RAM, but some of the V6J's competitors offer better value for money

Review Date: 17 Feb 2006

Price when reviewed: (£1,477 inc VAT)

Overall Rating
3 stars out of 6

The two-year collect-and-return warranty provided with the V6J is a little disappointing considering the price, but the fact that it's international should provide some peace of mind. So long as Asus has a presence in the country your V6J takes a tumble in, you can make use of the warranty just as you would in the UK - a definite plus for frequent travellers.

There isn't much to dislike about the V6J - it's very quick, has plenty of storage capacity and, providing you forget about the latest games, there isn't much you can't do with it. But it lacks unique selling points, and the price is simply too high. For this much, you could buy the more desirable Sony VAIO VGN-FE11S and pocket over £100 in change. You'd also get 60GB more hard disk space and a longer-lasting battery. Against such tough competition, the V6J looks distinctly ordinary.
