LG X110

Verdict

With built-in 3G and impressive build quality, the X110 is well worth considering if you want a constant connection - just note the poor out-of-box battery life.

Review Date: 9 Dec 2008

Price when reviewed: (£313 inc VAT)

Overall Rating
5 stars out of 6

And we can understand why LG didn't want to spoil the X110's carefully crafted lines. This is a very nice-looking laptop, with smooth contours and slim dimensions - even at its thickest point, it measures just 35mm (31mm if you don't include the feet). It's light, too, tipping the PC Pro scales at 1.19kg.

Pricing

LG's pricing strategy may gain it even more fans. The X110 can be had 'for free' on a 24-month deal from Phones4U (www.phones4u.co.uk), when purchased with Orange mobile broadband on a 3GB monthly data allowance - for £26 exc VAT per month.

Even without a contract, its price of £266 exc VAT is competitive. Bear in mind that the similarly specified Medion Akoya Mini E1210 costs £237 exc VAT, which is also based on the MSI Wind chassis but doesn't include a 3G modem and has a smaller hard disk. This is also a superior netbook to the 3G-equipped Advent 4213 and Dell Inspiron Mini 9 (as sold by Vodafone), which both have smaller 8.9in screens and cramped keyboards.

We wish the LG X110's battery life was longer, and don't recommend anyone buys it without paying for an extra battery, but if you want to buy a 10in netbook on contract it's currently the best choice.
