Toshiba NB100-11R in Laptops

Verdict

A superb choice of operating system and great-looking 8.9in screen, but the price needs to drop for Toshiba's first netbook to make a big impression.

Review Date: 2 Dec 2008

Price when reviewed: £212 (£244 inc VAT)

We could forgive all our little criticisms of the NB100 if the price was more aggressive, but at £212 exc VAT (the cheapest price we could find, which was from www.dabs.com) there's a lot of competition for your netbook money.

Acer's Aspire One is the obvious Linux-based rival, costing around £180 exc VAT, and it's backed up with a wide selection of options - including high-capacity batteries - to give true flexibility. Toshiba's offering looks a little half-hearted in comparison.

Or you could upgrade to a 10in screen and buy the Medion Akoya Mini E1210 for £237 exc VAT. Based on MSI's award-winning Wind chassis, it's far more usable than the NB100, and also has the added "advantage" of running Windows XP Home.
